Puerto Rican Coquito Vegan Cocktail

Holiday cocktails are a fun way to get creative when celebrating the holiday season (responsibly) and often some of the best cocktails are those that have a long traditional history. This coquito vegan cocktail is a spin on the famous Puerto Rican coquito, known for its lovely coconut flavor.

What Is A Coquito Cocktail?

In Puerto Rico, Coquitos are the most popular Christmas cocktail enjoyed during the holidays and can be found in almost every home, bar, and restaurant. While the traditional coquito recipe involves a combination of evaporated milk, condensed milk, coconut, spices, sometimes eggs, and rum, I wanted to try my hand at making this cocktail a little healthier and with some less processed ingredients, without compromising on the traditional flavor.

Ingredients You Will Need For A Coquito Cocktail

  • Coquitos are really easy to make with only a few simple ingredients needed to make these decadently thick and creamy cocktails. All you need are a few warming spices like cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg, and of course your favorite coconut rum (which you can exclude for a non alcoholic option).
  • To get the creamy consistency of the coquito most traditional recipes call for evaporated milk and sweetened condensed milk. For this recipe to make the coquito vegan I used a combination of full fat coconut milk, condensed coconut milk, and coconut cream.
