This decadent dairy free hot chocolate recipe is naturally sweetened and made using a rich cacao powder and creamy coconut milk that makes it the perfect cozy drink for cold winter days.

- 1 can full fat coconut milk
- 1/2 cup fair trade cacao powder
- 1 cup water
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 cup coconut sugar or real maple syrup
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch Himalayan sea salt
- Optional: 1/4 cup full fat coconut cream for topping
Instructions
- Place coconut milk (the cream + liquid), cacao powder, water, cinnamon stick, cinnamon powder, coconut sugar, vanilla, and sea salt in a medium-size sauce pan over medium heat on the stove.
- Stir consistently, whisking until the hot chocolate begins to thicken and small bubbles begin to form.
- Remove cinnamon stick from mixture and serve in individual serving cups.
- Serve with a dollop of coconut cream on top and enjoy
Notes
This dairy free hot chocolate is rich and decadent, and not too sweet. If you like a sweeter hot chocolate simply add more coconut sugar or maple syrup to your taste.
